Teaching Experimental Music at Cranbrook Academy of Art

In the Winter/Spring 2025 semester I developed and led a class in the Program in Critical Studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. The course was called “Score Study” but referred to as “Music for Artists”. The aim of this class was to expand the students’ established visual art practices into the world of experimental sound and performance. In the course we studied many different types of music notation and interpreted a variety of scores in performance practice. The students also created their own scores, which we performed at the Cranbrook Art Museum at the culmination of the course.
